Traffic crashes continue to be the leading cause of preventable death and injury for those of us who work and live in Fremont County. In just the last five years 84 people lost their lives – chances are you knew at least one of those people.
Injury Prevention Resources is committed to reducing death and injury from traffic crashes in and throughout Wyoming. We are dedicated to decreasing the incidence of impaired driving and increasing the incidence of correct use of child safety seats, booster seats, seat belts and bicycle helmets. This past year we accomplished a great deal, including:
- supervising 270 local second-time DUI offenders to ensure that they comply with the conditions of their court-ordered probation, including paying their fines and not driving under suspension;
- providing 123 car seats and booster seats to children whose families could not afford to purchase their own;
- conducting over 120 child safety seat check-ups to ensure that parents were using their child’s car seat safely and correctly;
- conducting 11 Victim Impact Panels for close to 1,000 DUI offenders and their guests;
- conducting Safety Rodeos for over 1,900 Fremont County children and providing over 600 bicycle helmets to children in need.
We wish that we could say we have completed our mission, but unfortunately this is not the case. Twentysix (26) people died on Fremont County’s roadways last year – and nearly all of them were preventable. A $20 donation provides bicycle helmets for three children, a $50 donation provides a convertible car seat to a child in need, a $100 donation allows an entire 1st grade class to participate in our Safety Rodeo and a $250 donation brings two people to speak at a Victim Impact Panel for DUI offenders and juvenile alcohol offenders.
