Child Safety Seat and Booster Seat Programs for Children from birth to age 8
Little Convincer
IPR developed the Little Convincer program to increase the use of booster seats and safety belts by kindergarten students and their families. The little Convincer program is an educational incentive program designed to teach young children and their families about the importance of buckling up and to provide a hands -on opportunity for children to practice the skill. The Little Convincer is a three-foot tall chair equipped with a lap/shoulder safety belt. Children climb up onto the chair and once correctly buckled up can be “tipped- over” to experience how the safety belt holds them tight in a simulated slow-speed crash situation.

The Little Convincer program is presented jointly by IPR staff and a local law enforcement officer at all kindergarten children in Fremont County. The presentation uses a child-sized bear to focus on the importance of booster seats and safety belts and then every child is given an opportunity to try out the Little Convincer. The presentation is followed by a week-long incentive program during which time students must document use of booster seats and safety seats by themselves, their parents and other family members. The bear is left in the classroom for the week to remind the children of the buckle-up presentation to reinforce the importance of booster seats and safety belts.

The Little Convincer program is presented to all kindergarten students in Lander, Riverton, Dubois, Shoshoni, Wind River and the Reservation schools, reaching 580 students in 20 separate classrooms. Parents and family members of the 580 students and the 20 kindergarten teachers all benefit directly from the program.
