Wyoming Law requires that children who have not reached their 9th birthday must be transported in a Booster seat. The Gimme a Boost program is done in three phases involving IPR and Law Enforcement. Grant money is used to pay for the over time that the Law Enforcement occurs while doing the program.Phase one of “Gimme a Boost” serves as an educational segment. Police officers have been on hand at the Fremont Co Elementary schools to discuss how the Wyoming Child Restraint law pertains to children. Phase two will serve as the distribution venue for families who may have been instructed to obtain a booster seat. The booster seat clinics will provide parents with low-cost booster seats and will have an opportunity to know whether their child is big enough for an adult seat belt, along with any other questions parents may have about properly securing their child in a vehicle. The third phase of the program is enforcement and it will be at this time that police officers may begin to issue citations for not properly securing a child in an appropriate child restraint.
